Red fox pups
On an adventure to photograph a ranch we were very lucky to meet some great people. They had never met us before but heard we were wildlife photographers exploring their valley in Idaho. While photographing the many farm animals we also were allowed to photograph the farmers doing their work. I have stories to share of that adventure and of course many photographs. This will be an on going story blog on my web site.
This photograph is of young red foxes who lived down the way from the ranchers’ fields. The ranchers told us to go down by the grain silo to see the foxes. As we drove through the country roads around pastures filled with an assortment of cattle, horses and sheep we found the silo. When we arrived all was still but it looked like a possible den entrance under the platform.
My husband Paul grew up and learned to photograph in Alaska. He surprised me by being able to imitate a mother fox’s call. Suddenly out from under the silo came these fluffy swirling fox pups looking for their mom. We were all taken quite back by each other. The call worked twice and then they knew better….
As the days went by we returned again and again to observe and photograph the pups with our long lenses. They were a delight. We got to know there interactions with each other. The runt of the litter was a little girl who ran the whole den when mom was not around. This was one of my funnest wild animal observations and adventures.
